Emmanuella was a technically challenging project. It was made for Berne Printers, which is historically bounded to a monastery. Several decades ago, a non from this monastery wrote a complete Book of Psalms. Berne Printers needed a digital version of her handwriting to be able to reproduce the Book of Psalms in different languages, without loosing the characteristics of the original.

To mimic the original handwritten text as near as possible, the final font has five alternates per character, which are randomly flipped. It also has several (random) horizontal and vertical positioning features. This font was produced with the help of Erik van Blokland (letterror).
